Tooth Decay
Seattle, WA

Pediatric dentist helping a young girl patient at Crown Hill Smiles in Seattle, WAAs a general and cosmetic dental office, providing quality dental services to all of our patients is important to us here at Crown Hill Smiles. We believe dental health starts right from the beginning, which is why dentistry for kids is such an important part of our practice.

Dental Exams

Dental exams and teeth cleanings are important for everyone, but they're especially crucial for children as their teeth are erupting. Here at Crown Hill Smiles, we want to make sure our patients have the best oral health possible, which means keeping up with regular dental care. Our dentists will give your child a comprehensive exam to look for any problems, and then we will clean your child’s teeth to get rid of any built-up plaque or tartar.

Why Does My Child Need a Dental Exam?

A dental exam involves looking in your child’s mouth and checking the health of their teeth, gums, tongue, and other tissues. We will also look for any signs of tooth decay or damage. If your child has any dental problems, we will be able to address these and treat them right away.

Dental exams are important for two reasons: prevention and treatment. A comprehensive exam can help identify potential problems before they become serious. This is especially true when it comes to tooth decay. Catching these problems early makes treatment much easier and less expensive. In addition, if your child already has some dental issues going on, we can develop a treatment plan that will address them.

What to Expect During Your Child’s Visit

If your child has seen us before, we will start by reviewing any previous treatment records. Next, we might take x-rays to look at their teeth and gums and their overall structure and health. Then, one of our dentists will give your child’s teeth a thorough cleaning. If they find any decay or other problems during the visit, we will let you know what treatment we recommend for your child. We may need to perform a root canal procedure before giving your child a filling or crown for any decayed teeth.

Practicing Good Oral Hygiene

Make sure your child brushes twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, flosses once a day, and if approved by the dentist, uses an antiseptic mouthwash. Your child can also try using dental wax or fluoride rinse between their teeth every few days just before brushing for extra protection. In addition, it is best for your child to avoid eating sticky foods, especially candies and sugary treats, that will get caught in their teeth, and to drink plenty of water throughout the day.

If you have any questions about how to help your child maintain healthy teeth through home care after their exam and cleaning session, please feel free to ask us at Crown Hill Smiles. We will be happy to help you and your child keep up with proper oral hygiene so you can enjoy all of life's little pleasures, like tasty food! If you want to call us, reach us at (206) 204-9623.
