Tooth Replacement
Teeth may be lost for a variety of reasons, or in rare cases are missing from birth. We have a variety of tooth replacement options to restore your smile.
Dental Implants are the current standard of care in replacing a single missing tooth. A titanium post is surgically placed in the jaw bone that once housed the tooth. Once the post has become fully integrated into the bone (which can take several months), a prosthetic tooth is secured on the implant. We refer our patients to our trusted oral surgeon for implant placement, to ensure a perfectly integrated and aligned implant for us to later restore.
Dental Bridges are a good tooth replacement option for patients who are not good candidates for Dental Implants. A dental bridge is essentially a multi-unit dental crown. The teeth on either side of the empty space are shaped for crowns, and the dental bridge (with a fake tooth suspended in the middle) is permanently cemented in place.
Dentures (plates) are an option for replacing multiple missing teeth, or all the teeth. It is important to note, however, that because they are a removable prosthetic they are not a replacement for having teeth, but rather a replacement for having no teeth. Depending on the number of teeth needing to be replaced and the anatomy of you mouth, we may recommend you see our prosthodontist (a specialist who does larger scale reconstructions). We have a prosthodontist in our office one day a week to see patients with these types of needs.
