Advanced Technology for High Quality Care

Dental Technology at Crown Hill SmilesAt Crown Hill Smiles, we use cutting edge technology to prevent, diagnose, and treat dental disease. This technology allows us to identify issues sooner and manage them conservatively. It also helps us communicate and educate patients so they clearly understand the condition of their mouth.

Digital X-Rays

X-rays are an integral part of a comprehensive dental exam as they allow us to see much more of your teeth than what is visible clinically. Digital x-rays produce less radiation than traditional film x-rays. A standard series of digital intraoral x-rays produces an equivalent amount of radiation as walking around in downtown Denver for a day. Frequency of x-ray exams depends on your dental history and decay risk. On average, we recommend updating your x-rays on an annual basis.

There are many advantages of digital x-rays over conventional x-rays. As we mentioned, digital x-rays produce significantly less radiation, approximately 1/5th of that of conventional films. Further, the digital image is able to be directly transferred to a monitor, which allows us to share it with you immediately and let you see firsthand, in high definition, any issues that are affecting your teeth. With these types of x-rays, we are able to zoom in on specific areas of your teeth to gain a better understanding of what is going on.

Intraoral Camera

Our intraoral camera is great for taking close up pictures of your teeth to show you conditions needing treatment that you otherwise might not be able to see.

Let’s say you have an asymptomatic crack in your molar on the lower left side of your mouth. This crack could lead to the tooth fracturing at any time. We could tell you about it and you may get a decent idea of what we are talking about, or you may not. We find that sharing a live image of a dental issue does a much better service to you than any explanation ever could.

Oral Cancer Screening

At every exam, we will perform an oral cancer screen in which we closely examine all soft tissue of the mouth for any changes in tissue morphology. Routine digital x-rays can help us see if there are any hard tissue changes that could be a sign of bone cancer.
